Though you may have retired your bucket of sidewalk chalk in the sixth grade, here are some unusual new uses for the inexpensive product.

Lifts Stains
Got grease stains? Rub a piece of white chalk into the stain and let it soak up the grease for a few minutes. Dust off any excess chalk and wash as usual. The chalk dust will get into the fibers and absorb the oils, making the stain easier to wash out.

Absorbs Moisture
Moisture and humidity can cause metals to tarnish. To slow the process, wrap a small bundle of chalk in cheesecloth to keep your tools from rusting or any other precious metals.

Combats Mustiness
Hang a bundle of chalk in your closets and cabinets to keep them from getting damp and musty. The chalk will absorb excess moisture from the air, leaving you with a fresher scent.

Repels Ants
To keep ants out of your house, draw chalk lines around your doorways and windowsills. Ants won’t cross a chalk line. Whatever the reason, this nontoxic solution will keep ants outside where they belong.

Additionally, I’ve compiled some pictures of impressive artwork all created with ordinary chalk. My intent is to spark a few creative brain cells and reintroduce you to the possibilites of chalk. For the price of less than a hamburger you can do a lot with ordinary chalk.

Monday is without a doubt the most dreaded day of the week. Throughout your lifetime you will experience roughly 3600 Mondays and almost certainly oppose every one. Though it is about time we change our mindset about Monday and live each one as it is our last. Unless mankind perfects human clonning or cell regeneration, we have but one life to live and Monday should serve as a reminder of such. An Australian nurse, over the course of several years, recorded the five top regrets of dying people and the results may surprise you.

No one said they wished they worked more or made more money. Or spent more time watching TV. Or any of the many other ways we spend the bulk of our days.

The top 5 regrets of dying people are:

1.I wish I’d had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me.
2.I wish I hadn’t worked so hard.
3.I wish I’d had the courage to express my feelings.
4.I wish I had stayed in touch with my friends.
5.I wish that I had let myself be happier.

Basically, it comes down to this: Be true to who you are and how you feel and make more time for the people and things you love. It all starts with Monday, have a positive attitude and the rest of the week should go in your favor.

What are you doing with your Monday?

Summertime is nearly upon us, thankfully for many people this means three months of relaxation and a much needed break from daily routines. Though the summer sun inspires lethargy, it is important to keep track of eating habits during this year’s “swimsuit season.” Exercise and eating right are the fundamentals to a healthy lifestyle and a trim waist. Here are 12 foods that burn fat and keep you feeling full.

1. Oatmeal- Rich in fiber, this tasty snack stays in your stomach for hours, helping to fight those potato chip cravings. Perfect for any time of day.
2. Almonds- With magnesium, protein, and fiber this super nut has many healthy benefits including lowering your risk for cancer and Alzheimer’s disease. Just remember these little treats contain about 9 calories a piece so find ways to incorporate them into your diet rather than snacking on them.
3. Protein powder- Not just for buff gym members. Whey protein contains amino acids that burn fat and build muscle. Just add two teaspoons to any smoothie and you are set!
4. Olive oil- An essential mono-saturated fat that keeps your cholesterol in check and helps to control hunger. Try incorporating this oil into your next cooking creation.
5. Berries- Jam packed with fiber, strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries are a tasty way to regulate your digestive system.
6. Eggs- Another great way to metabolize fat, eggs also contain B12 that helps with the functioning of the brain, nervous system, and formation of blood.
7. Beans- A low calorie food, beans help you tone up and lose weight.
8. Lean meats/ Fish- Rich in protein, these help your body to burn fat. Fish also contains omega-3 that supports brain functions and is low in saturated fats. Opt for lean turkey, salmon, or tuna.
9. Whole grains- Avoid breads labeled “wheat” as they can often lack fiber and nutrients. Instead grab a loaf labeled whole grains that contain the right kind of carbs and keep you full.
10. Peanut butter- A great way to keep from looking bloated, peanut butter contains niacin that also keeps your digestive system on track.
11. Green Veggies- Vitamins and minerals found in these leafy greens contain few calories and much needed fiber. Avoid iceberg lettuce as it has almost no fiber. Choose romaine or spinach instead.
12. Iced Tea- Drinking tea boosts your metabolism and is also rich in antioxidants.

Graduation is upon us. The caps will be thrown and happiness will overwhelm hearts. So now the big question is what do you do with your new found degree?

Unfortunately many graduates think that a degree guarantees them a sparkling new job. However, that just isn’t the truth. Networking is the answer to your problem. Make sure you get to know people. It’s important people remember your face and name so that you can beat out the competition for the job. Get to know the professionals around you so that you can be the next big top dog!

The school year is almost over. You realize that all you have done this year as far as school goes is a ton of homework and some irritating tests.

Next year will be better of course. Hopefully you have realized that school involvement is character building on top of resume building. As we close out the 2012 spring semester you should look forward to the next school year with a burst of ideas and a renewed zeal to find out about your school. Becoming active not only helps you in the working world later, it helps you to figure out exactly what you like and what you need when you are “all grown up”.

The sun is beaming through the clouds. Butterflies are dancing lazily in the air. The lure of a swimming pool is becoming a serious problem.

It all just adds up to the summer time. And with it comes the almost constant desire to skip class, forget homework and otherwise neglect your educational duties. We all have the same feelings, but don’t despair. There are only a few more weeks of school left and you know you have to finish out the semester with as stellar grades as you can muster. Make sure you keep your goal in sight and push through the summer time laziness. You’re almost done.

Don’t give up now!

Being positive is more than just pasting a fake smile on your face.

Having a positive mindset can do a lot for you. If you start your day off with self-doubt and disappointment it is likely that the rest of your day will be a downward spiral of unhappiness. However, if you believe in yourself and realize that there is ALWAYS a silver lining your day will be an epic journey of awesome.

Remember, thinking positive makes a push toward positive outcomes. Being a downer not only makes people not want to be around you, but is more likely to get you the short end of the stick. So the moral of the story…BE HAPPY!
